Deception of The Mind

Part 1: Do The Hard Thing

Sometimes doing the hard thing seems impossible. For example, Moses didn't believe he could free the Egyptians from slavery. When God came to him, Moses responded with an abundance of excuses, the main one being, "Why would Pharaoh listen to me, since I speak with faltering lips?" Moses doubted himself because he couldn't speak well. So, God told him, "I will bring someone to speak for you." Even though Moses was still nervous, he carried on with God's plan. This shows that sometimes you have to step out of your comfort zone and do difficult things.

Don't get me wrong, I used to be the queen of comfort, never stepping outside the boundaries I had subconsciously created for myself. These boundaries only held me back. But when I listened to God and heard what He wanted me to do, I actually stepped deeper into my comfort zone. After all, how many 16-year-olds are willing to leave traditional schooling, let go of unequally yoked friendships, pursue their purpose by writing a devotional, and—with a lot of help—create a growing business? Yeah, not a lot. However, what once seemed beyond crazy has now become my average Tuesday.

Doing the hard thing is difficult, trust me. Today, I started driving again after months of being a passenger princess and one minor collision (sorry, Dad!). As I was driving, I realized that a task will seem ten times harder until you start. Driving seemed terrifying at first, but when I got behind the wheel today, I realized my fear was valid but overblown.

Sometimes we don't do hard things because we're afraid of what we'll lose or what we'll have to face. But let today be a reminder that walking in faith requires you to do the hard things—whether that's driving or growing deeper in your relationship with God.
