When God Gives You A Voice

Have you ever felt a nudge from God, urging you to speak up, but you held back because you thought your voice wouldn't matter? I think we’ve all been there. It’s a common struggle, and even one of the greatest leaders in the Bible, Moses, felt this way.

In Exodus 4:10, after the Lord told Moses to go free His people, Moses said to the Lord, "Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue." Moses doubted his ability to speak eloquently and questioned if he was good enough to set the Israelites free. He didn’t feel equipped for the task God was giving him.

But what does God say? He reminds us that He is the one who has given us all that we have. Why would He assign us a purpose without giving us the tools needed to fulfill it? God reassures us that our abilities are enough because He equips us for our purpose.

When I was younger, the idea that my voice wasn't good enough was instilled in me. I remember one day in fourth grade, I told my teacher about a girl who was bullying me, and she brushed it off, saying that she was just playing. At that moment, I felt defeated. It had taken so much courage for me to go and tell my teacher what I was experiencing, and then for her to brush it off as a joke made me feel like not only was my voice powerless but any power it did have wasn’t good enough to speak the truth. Later on, when I came to God, He revealed to me that the teacher who silenced my voice was actually the enemy trying to dismiss my purpose. God reminded me that my voice does have power because my power comes from Him. At some point, doubt was instilled in me in order to get me to stray from my purpose. But God reassures me that He wouldn’t have given me this purpose if it wasn’t for me.

If you're feeling like your voice doesn't matter or that you can't make a difference, remember Moses. Remember that God doesn't call the equipped; He equips the called. Your voice is powerful because God has given it to you.
